Broxburn went to Newtongrange looking to win their last two games and finish as high up the league as possible . Newtongrange Star had an outside chance of avoiding relegation if the League winners were to win the play off and get promoted to the Lowland League with fifth from bottom their highest possible position .
It was Broxburn who created the first opportunity with Craig Newall and Ross Nimmo creating a chance down the right before crossing into the box but was just too high for Jackson Barker . A couple of minutes later Greg Binnie and Ross Nimmo created an opening when Nimmo crossed Liam McCathie got caught out by the flight of the ball but recovered enough to palm away for a corner . Newtongrange put on some pressure and when Adam Nelson’s shot was saved by Shaun Donoghue it broke to Tom Davies who sent his effort over the bar . On 14 minutes a Ross Nimmo free kick into the box was met by Gordon Donaldson but the defenders header went over the bar . Half way through the half Broxburn defence had to look lively to clear an effort from Liall Smith .Binnie sent a great ball from left to right and found Nimmo who laid it back to David Greenhill who saw his shot from 25 yards sail over the bar .With ten minutes of the half remaining a free kick in to the box by Liam McIntosh found Ryan Porteous clear but Donoghue saved well . Binnie put a great ball into the path of Greg Nicol but it was a shade to far in front of the midfielder and the chance had gone . Gary Brass saw a shot saved in the dying embers of the half .
An opportunity on 51 minutes when a free kick was awarded just outside the box to the visitors central to goal but Ross Nimmo’s effort went over the bar . A goal burst was started on 59 minutes when a free kick into the box was cleared only to Gordon Donaldson who put the ball back into the danger area for GARY BRASS who had to turn and face the goal before firing past McCathie . Two minutes later the visitors went 2-0 up when a ball into the box was only cleared as far as DAVID GREENHILL on the edge of the box and he fired into the back of the net with McCathie no where near it . Within four minutes Newtongrange were back in the game when a ball into the box from the left was first saved by Donoghue but the ball broke to DAVID MALLOY , who had not long come on , gathered himself before firing home a lifeline . The hosts grabbed this with both hands as two minutes later they were level when when a long ball from right to left found Steven Tait who squared to Liam McIntosh to square the game . With five minutes left a Broxburn ball from left to right flew across the six yard box but there were no takers of the opportunity . The visitors were not to be outdone and good play down the right saw a great ball into the box for JACKSON BARKER for the second time in two weeks fire home a winner .
A good result and gives us momentum going forward with a few absentees today and walking wounded having a place on the bench we look forward to our last league match next Saturday at home to Sauchie .
