East Of Scotland Premier League: Glenrothes v Broxburn Athletic 16 March 2024
Broxburn made the trip to the Warout Stadium in Glenrothes, looking to maintain their unbeaten league away record having won 9 and drawn 1 this season so far. The Brox made 3 changes to last weeks starting line up Turner, Bremner and Miller replaced Heath, Thomson and Davidson.
Glenrothes went into the game with no league win in 7 games, their last success being on 11 November 2023 when they had beaten Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts. The Glens showed 2 changes from last weeks home loss to Musselburgh by 2-1, Brown and Cargill replaced Kinness and Schiavone.
On a very heavy bumpy pitch, Broxburn started on the front foot Bremner feeding Brass in the 3rd minute whose cross was blocked for a corner. Jones took the kick but his effort didn’t clear the first defender Wallace who cleared.
In the following minute a glorious chance for the Brox, Anderson played a long ball forward from the halfway line which was flicked on by Brass for Jones whose shot was blocked, the ball broke to Miller whose cross was gathered by Douglas and his ball back in to the box found Brass unmarked but he headed wide when well placed.
Broxburn created another opportunity in the 6th minute a neat move again with Brass playing the ball to Bremner just inside the penalty box but the midfielder’s shot was straight at home keeper Laing.
The Glens responded with their first effort at goal McLeod-Kay doing well to create an opportunity but his effort was high over the bar.
From a long ball by Page, Douglas did well to gather and flick to the left where he was met by home keeper Laing who appeared to catch him but nothing was given.
Glenrothes continued to edge their way into the game Brown and McKenzie combining well with the former getting in a shot from the left which was straight at Watt. Time 16 minutes.
In 23 minutes Turner surged into the box and was brought down by a home defender with a penalty being awarded. TURNER took the kick and smashed the ball high into the net.
Things could have got better for the Brox a minute later Douglas being set free on the right but he took a heavy touch but managed to get in a cross which Bell did well to clear before the ball reached Brass.
There were claims for another penalty when Brass was clipped in the penalty area but nothing was given.
Glenrothes capitalised on that decision on the left side Brown did well to cross for MACKENZIE who side footed the ball into the net to tie the score. Time 26 minutes.
This spurred the Glens on and they almost found themselves in front Mackenzie played through but his shot was straight at Watt.
Turner and Douglas found their way into the referee’s notebook in 31 and 33 minutes.
In 36 minutes a Miller cross from the left was well fought for by Douglas who got off a shot which was blocked by Smart in the 6 yard box and cleared.
Thompson was booked for a bad foul on Jones. Time 38 minutes.
Locke was booked in 44 minutes.

The Glens had the first real chance of the 2nd half neat play on the left resulted in McLeod-Kay being given time to cross the ball which found Bridgeford who headed wide when well placed.

Just past the hour Bremner advanced forward getting into a shooting position but his effort was blocked and spun up into the air for keeper Laing to gather.
Super sub Nimmo replaced Douglas in 62 minutes.
Locke was brought down just outside the box on the left side Nimmo took the kick which hit the wall, the ball was then played to the back post where Wallace mis-kicked the ball to Page who in turn also missed his kick with the ball going out.
Denton was booked for taking a kick at Nimmo in full flight. Turner took the kick from 30 yards out but his shot cleared the bar.
From a free kick in 70 minutes Jones hit a fantastic shot which looked to be heading for the top corner until Laing produced a fantastic one handed save to palm the ball away from goal.
In 71 minutes a double home substitution Whittet and Ramzan replaced Wallace and Brown.
Smart was booked in 75 minutes.
The Brox made a double change a minute later Heath and Downie replaced Miller and Turner.
Substitute Heath combined well with Locke on the left getting into the penalty box and hitting a shot which crashed into the side netting.
With Broxburn piling on the pressure Locked burst into the box and appeared to be brought down but the referee thought otherwise and brandished a yellow card meaning Locke with 2 yellow cards was sent off.
In 86 minutes a real let off for Broxburn Mackenzie played the ball into the penalty box to McLeod-Kay
who had time to steady himself and pick his spot but his shot incredibly hit the outside of the right post.
In 88 minutes from a long throw in by Page, Anderson flicked the ball on with his head, the ball falling to Brass who fired wide of goal.
Page was booked. Time 89 minutes. Marky Munro followed him in 91 minutes.
With the Brox pushed on to try and grab an equaliser on a break Cargill was brought down in the penalty area by Page. CARGILL took the kick himself and fired the ball into the net. Time 90+2.
Broxburn went straight down the field and pulled a goal back MUNRO drilling the ball low into the net with a left footed shot.
