Tranent vs Broxburn Athletic

We took a break from league action yesterday and travelled down the bypass to lowland league side Tranent in the South Challenge Cup 5th Round.

The progress Tranent have made since being promoted as EOSFL Champions in season 21/22 has been excellent. They finished 5th in their maiden season, and they currently lie in 5th place in the Lowland League. In their last fixture, they drew at with Caledonian Braves 1-1 at home last weekend.

Broxburn make 3 changes from last weeks 2-1 victory over Sauchie. Stevie Anderson, Euan McGill and Ross Nimmo are replaced by Ben Davidson, Andrew Gillen and Connor Thomson.

Tranent are in all blue and start with a 4-3-3 formation.

Broxburn are in their changed kit. Gold and black shirts, black socks and gold and black socks and start with a 4-4-2 diamond formation.

Broxburn are the first to threaten a minute into the game. Calum Heath finds Errol Douglas who fires way over the bar.

First chance of the match came in 9 minutes. Walker’s shot is saved by Bob Watt.

Great play by Errol Douglas. He takes the ball down and plays a great ball out wide left for Calum Heath. Heath’s effort is right at Tranent keeper Mason.

GOAL! Tranent take the lead. A great finish by Lennon Walker whose shot finds the left corner.

Penalty to Tranent. Greg Page is judged to have fouled Lennon Walker, but from our viewpoint it looked soft, Page made contact with the ball. GOAL! Up steps Kallum Higginbotham who scores a good penalty low into the net.
