Broxburn Athletic returned home to Albyn Park in league action in League action against East Stirlingshire on Saturday afternoon.
East Stirlingshire currently lie in 17th position in the Lowland league. The club is managed by ex-Cowdenbeath and Clyde player Pat Scullion. The club play their home games at the Falkirk stadium (Groundshare with local rivals Falkirk FC). The team is awash with experience. Ex Hearts midfielder Morgaro Gomis and ex Raith Rovers striker Greg Spence are a vital part of the club along with ex Cowdenbeath defender and club captain Jamie Pyper. The clubs top goal scorer this term, is Jamie Penker with six goals in the Lowland League. In the clubs last fixture, they defeated Cumbernauld Colts at the Falkirk Stadium last Wednesday night 5-0 in the Lowland League. Goals came from Ben Lamont and Shaun Brown who got two each and striker Greig Spence was also on the scoresheet.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits, Red and white shirts, white socks and red and white socks. East Stirlingshire are in black and white strips, black shorts and socks. Broxburn make no changes to the team that drew with Caledonian Braves 2-2 at Alliance Park last Tuesday.
GOAL! What a start for Broxburn. Gary Brass picks up possession wide left. His cross catches everyone out and finds the bottom right corner.

GOAL! Its two goals in 5 minutes for the hosts. Great flick through by Errol Douglas finds Owen Wardell who is in on goal and finishes well into the right corner

East Stirling get up the pitch for the first time. A cross into the box from Matthew Flynn is headed clear by Broxburn defender Jonathan Page.
On 9 minutes, a deep Andy Rodden cross from the left is just over Errol Douglas. Owen Wardell picks up the loose ball on the byline before cutting it back to Kyle Bell. Bell’s shot is well saved by East Stirling keeper Jay Cantley. Great direct running by Owen Wardell, he takes on the East Stirling left back and his whipped cross in has no takers and goes out for a goal kick to the visitors.
East Stirlingshire captain Jamie Pyper picks up an injury and can’t continue. Referee Gamble doesn’t allow Shire to make a substitution and East Stirling play three minutes with ten men. Eventually Pyper is replaced by Ben Lamont. Two minutes later there is another blow for East Stirling. Experienced midfielder Morgaro Gomes is also injured. He is replaced by Lewis Hynd.
First booking of the match comes on 21 minutes. Shire’s Mark Docherty is booked for descent.
On 24 minutes, a free kick taken by Shire’s Greig Spence on the edge of the box is well saved by Bob Watt.
GOAL! 3-0 Broxburn. After a good spell by the visitors, Great through ball by Owen Wardell finds Errol Douglas who is in on goal. Douglas makes no mistake and slots in the left corner for his 18th goal of the season.

On 45 minutes, Owen Wardell sends through Errol Douglas who is in again. Errol’s shot is saved by Shire keeper Cantley.
HALF TIME (4-0 Broxburn)
East Stirling start the second half better and are the first to threaten on 46 minutes. Ben Lamont’s shot is over the bar.
On the hour mark. Scott McRory Irving plays a cracking ball through for captain Nick Locke. The Broxburn number 23 is wiped out by Shire keeper Jay Cantley and the referee has no hesitation and points to the spot. Up steps Gary Brass who has the chance of a Hatrick, but East Stirling keeper goes from zero to hero and pulls off a good save to keep the score 4-0.

On 65 minutes, Owen Wardell continues making the East Stirlingshire left back’s day a nightmare. He takes him on again on the left and his cross is just missed by sub-Bryan Mwangi.
GOAL! It’s 5-0 Broxburn. Bryan Mwangi picks up, drives into the box and buries his shot high into the net.

Half chance for Broxburn on 71 minutes. Darren Downie gets behind the East Stirlingshire defence but he cant get good connection on his shot and Shire keeper Jay Cantley collects.

On 82 minutes, East Stirling should have scored. Top scorer Jamie Penker close range effort is well saved by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt. On 83 minutes, Shaun Brown drags his shot wide of target and on 87 minutes, a free kick by Mark Docherty finds Chris Ingils who heads over the bar.
Broxburn kept a clean sheet in the end, and it was a comfortable day for the hosts. Now we look forward to a break from league action with a trip to Thorn Athletic away in the South of Scotland cup.
