East of Scotland Premier League – Broxburn Athletic v Tynecastle – 10/11/2020

The first night match at the Albyn this season saw Broxburn’s undefeated home record come to an end as an energetic Tynecastle side proved too hot to handle. The night didn’t get off to a good start with David Greenhill injured in the warm up, Jack Beesley stepping up from the bench. In other changes from Saturdays win v Blackburn Gillen replaced the suspended Wright, Kelly for Brass and Hopkinson for Ireland. Tynecastle made one change kennedy for Fletcher Hendry.

Broxburn were first to threaten Ross being allowed space to run into by the Tynecastle defence his shot was blocked the Brox players claiming by use of a hand but referee Luke wasn’t interested in their claims.

Redmond made good ground down the left in 4 minutes but his cross was cut out by the visitors defence.

Tynecastle threated for the first time in 5 minutes when Cowley and Redmond failed to deal with a corner Hendry fired the ball over the home cross bar.

Ross again was allowed freedom to run and went down in the penalty area under challenge from Butler but referee Luke waved away the penalty appeals.

The visitors were very lively in their play going forward Combe getting clear on the right to send in a great ball which Cameron almost turned goalwards.

Hopkinson and Beesley combined well down the right, Beesley’s cut back went to Cowley whose shot hit a Tynecastle defender again the home players claiming handball, the ball broke to Kelly who bundled the ball into the net but was flagged offside.

Ross once again got into good position in 13 minutes but this time he shot just wide and over.

Tynecastle began to get a grip a grip in midfield and in 20 minutes the trailist left back fired in a shot just wide of the right hand post.

The visitors were dangerous from set plays setting up Kennedy to shoot over the bar and Hendry heading wide from a Kennedy corner in 26 minutes.

Redmond got a shot off in 27 minutes which he didn’t quite catch but forced a save from Jackson. Cowley was then next to have a shot for the Brox when in good position but his shot went wide of the right hand post.

On the half hour the deadlock was broken, ANDERSON went past Cowley and wasn’t closed down and he hit a great left foot shot past Wallace into the net.

Ross tried to respond for Broxburn in 33 minutes but his shot from 20 yards out went wide left.

Broxburn were punished in 37 minutes Grant trying to head the ball back but this was latched onto by COMBE who rounded Wallace and he slotted the ball into the empty net.

Ross was booked for Broxburn in 41 minutes.

Tynecastle forced 2 corners in quick succession Butler heading just wide from the second kick.

Half Time Broxburn Athletic 0– 2 Tynecastle

Broxburn made a change at half time Binnie replacing Hopkinson. Tynecastle introduced Wales for Hendry.

In 49 minutes from a nice build up Wales fired well wide for the visitors as they continued to dominate.

Broxburn then put together a decent move Binnie and Cowley combining to set up Ross but his shot was high and over the bar.

Kelly got in a good cross in 51 minutes which Beesley headed back to Cowley whose shot was blocked by the visitors defence.

In 59 minutes Broxburn made 2 changes Kelly and Beesley replaced by Brass and Turnbull.

The game was effectively won on the hour when Tynecastle cut through the home defence Kennedy playing a great ball to Cameron on the left whose cross was met by COMBE inside the 6 yard box and he applied the finish.

Broxburn’s patient passing game from the back was constantly under pressure from the eager Tynecastle midfield and forwards and created chances, Kennedy’s shot in 64 minutes bringing a save from Wallace.

An excellent Murray free kick for Broxburn just eluded Nicol as the home side strived to open their account.

Nicol was then shown a yellow card and Ireland replaced Cowley. Tynecastle also made a change Dawson for Fisher.

In 77 minutes Ireland lost the ball down the left side with Cameron getting in a cross which Wallace had to save.

In 78 minutes there was a flare up between a number of players from both sides Gillen and Cameron were booked.

From an Ireland free kick in 82 minutes Nicol got in a good shot which clipped the outside of the post on the way wide.

The game petered out to the final whistle with Tynecastle putting in an impressive display and were deserved victors on the night.
