Broxburn Athletic vs Musselburgh Athletic

We returned to Albyn Park on Saturday, with an important league game against third place Musselburgh Athletic.

The visitors come to Broxburn in decent form, winning 11, drawing 4 and losing 2 of their league games so far this season. They were last in action last Wednesday, losing in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup 5-3 to Lowland league side University of Stirling, away from home.

Broxburn make 3 changes to the side that defeated Penicuik 1-0 last weekend. In come Kieran Moyles, Nick Locke and new signing Alassan Jones. They replace Ross Nimmo, Marcus Miller & Conor Thomson.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional strips. Red and white shirts, white shorts and red and white socks. They are playing a 4-4-2 formation.

Musselburgh Athletic are in all blue and start with a 3-4-3 shape.

As the team emerge from the tunnel, on comes the rain as we kick off procedures.

First effort is by the visitors on the second minute. Oban Anderson’s shot from outside the box is well saved by the diving Broxburn keeper Bob Watt.

On 13 minutes, new Broxburn signing Alassan Jones is fouled outside the box. Jones steps up and his free kick is pushed wide by Musselburgh keeper Daniel Laing.

Chance for Musselburgh on 15 minutes. Zacherry Khan picks up wide left, he crosses for Aidan Walsh whose effort is wide of target.

GOAL! Musselburgh take the lead. A long throw in from the right by Nathan Evans finds Robert Wilson who heads home into the right corner.

Marky Munro has plenty of space wide right, but his cross is right at Musselburgh keeper Daniel Laing who gathers.

Nick Locke shoots wide of target for the hosts on 29 minutes.

On 46 minutes, a long ball forward by Lewis Turner finds Steven Anderson. The veteran defender can’t get much contact on the ball, and it was easily collected by Musselburgh keeper.

GOAL! It’s a second for Musselburgh. A long free kick into the box finds Nathan Evans who beats Stevie Anderson to the ball. His nod on finds Jordan Smith who chests it down and slots it over Bob Watt and into an empty net.

A long ball forward finds Nicky Reid for Musselburgh in an advanced position. Broxburn substitute Ross Nimmo makes a great sliding tackle to clear the danger.

Nick Locke picks up in a central position and drives into the Musselburgh box. His deflected shot is just wide of the left-hand post.

On 62 minutes, Lewis Turner delivers a great ball into the box which finds Steven Anderson, Anderson’s header is wide of target.

GOAL! Its 2-2! Ross Nimmo finds Gary Brass. Brass returns the ball to Nimmo with a back heel. Ross Nimmo crosses for debutant Alassan Jones. On the volley, he finds the top corner.
