East Of Scotland Premier League: Broxburn Athletic v Tynecastle – 11 February 2023
Broxburn were looking to get back on the winning trail after suffering two straight losses at Sauchie and Auchinleck. There were 4 changes from last weeks cup loss at Auchinleck, Newall, Wright, Jeffries and new signing from Linlithgow Rose Callum Bremner replacing B.Donaldson, G.Donaldson, McConnell and Clark.
Visitors Tynecastle were last in action 2 weeks ago losing at home to Dundonald Bluebell by 3-1. They made 3 changes to their starting XI Reekie, Chesser and Murrell replaced Ponton, Mackie and Frankland.
The Brox started off on the front foot Newall forcing a corner in the 4th minute. Jeffries took the kick deep to the back post where Brass got an effort on target which was cleared from the line, the ball spiralling into the air where Binnie won with his head but he couldn’t divert on target.
Another neat Brox move in 9 minutes, R.Nimmo playing the ball to Brass who chested the ball into Newall’s path but before the full back could get off a shot Hamilton had conceded a corner. Nothing came from the corner.
R.Nimmo was prominent for Broxburn and got in a great cross which Hamilton got to first ahead of Brass.
In 4 minutes Reekie swung over a cross which was well defended by Wright as he headed out for a corner. Weir took the kick but it was way overhit and went out for a throw in.
In the following minute Binnie was sent away on the right and sent over a cross which R.Nimmo couldn’t get a touch on, the ball breaking to Jeffries who smashed the ball into the side netting.
In 22 minutes Jeffries slid a great pass to Orru on the left who got into the penalty area where he was brought down by Reekie. JEFFRIES took the resultant penalty sending Jackson the wrong way and rolling the ball to his right and into the net.
Brass chipped a nice ball forward for Bremner who was just beaten to the ball by keeper Jackson at the edge of the penalty area.
In the 28th minute a let off for Broxburn, Cameron won a free kick from Sayers a few yards from the bye line Weir took the kick Blaney was unchallenged and hit the bar with a header which was scrambled clear.
It was the Brox’s turn to hit the woodwork 2 minutes later from a Jeffries corner Brass won at the back post his header hitting the top of the cross bar.
In 33 minutes Greig took a free kick 30 yards out on the right his ball in was a good one finding Murrell getting ahead of the Broxburn defence only to bundle his shot wide of the right hand post.
In the following minute Jeffries and Orru lost the ball to Greig 40 yards out who spotted Blair off his line with his shot only just clearing the bar.
The visitors fashioned another glorious chance in 45 minutes Cameron getting to the bye line and cutting ball back for Chesser at the edge of the box but he hit his shot disappointingly wide and high to the right.
R.Nimmo made great ground down the right and his cross was on the money but well cut out by Reekie before Brass could get a touch on the ball.

In 66 minutes Broxburn gifted the lead Blair taking a short goal kick to Wright which MURRELL was alert to and nipped in to slot the ball into the home net.
Things got even worse for Broxburn Tynecastle making ground down the left Murrell playing over a great ball with CAMERON waiting in splendid isolation to head the ball home. Time 69 minutes.
