Kinnoull vs Broxburn Athletic

We travelled to Perth for the second weekend on the trot. This time to Tulloch Park to take on Kinnoull on league duty.

We travel up the M90 as East of Scotland Premier Division Champions, which was confirmed last Wednesday with Jeanfield Swifts defeating Musselburgh Athletic 3-2 at the Riverside stadium. Congratulations to the manager, coaching staff and players on a great season and all the best for the upcoming playoff.

Kinnoull lie bottom of the East of Scotland Premier Division and unfortunately were relegated a few weeks back after only winning 3 games all season. In their last fixture, they lost 4-1 to Dunbar United last Wednesday night at New Countess Park.

The last time the two clubs met was on Saturday the 11th of November 2023. Two goals each for Gary Brass and Errol Douglas and goals from Nick Locke and Greg Page, gave Broxburn Athletic a 6-0 win on the day. Broxburn make 6 changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Jeanfield Swifts last weekend.  In come Jack Sayers, Ben Davidson, Callum Bremner, Callum Heath, Bryan Mwangi and Alassan Jones. They replace, Steven Anderson, Ross Nimmo, Lewis Turner, Marcus Miller, Nick Locke &  Connor Thomson. Kinnoull are in all red and start with a 4-5-1 formation. Broxburn Athletic are in their changed all dark blue kits and start with a 4-4-2 formation.

Broxburn emerge from the tunnel to a guard of honour by Kinnoull and the match officials, which was a lovely touch.

The home side started well in the opening minutes. The number 7’s shot is well saved by Bob Watt.

On 8 minutes, Broxburn had their first chance. A long free kick into the box finds Gary Brass who wins the header. The ball bounces over the Kinnoull centre back and falls for Callum Heath whose volley is saved by the Kinnoull keeper.

On 20 minutes, a Jack Sayers clearance sends through Alassan Jones, who is in on goal. The Kinnoull keeper pushes his effort past the post. On 23 minutes, Gary Brass is in on goal. He looks up and finds Errol Douglas. The big man takes a bad touch with his back to goal and Kinnoull get it half cleared as far as Alassan Jones, who flicks it up and volleys over the bar from distance.

On 24 minutes, Kinnoull have another chance. Ball is worked to their number 16 who shoots wide of the right of the right-hand post. There is a stoppage in play as the Kinnoull centre back is down injured and unfortunately has to be substituted.

On 39 minutes, Allasan Jones drags a shot wide of target. Bang on 45 minutes, Broxburn should have had the opening goal. Great vision by Alassan Jones who drives down the right, he plays a superb ball to Callum Bremner who is in a scoring position. The ball hits the Broxburn midfielders shin and is cleared by the Kinnoull defender.

HALF TIME (0-0)

Broxburn start the second period better. On 48 minutes, Bryan Mwangi’s shot is pushed wide by the Kinnoull keeper. Broxburn come close again on 49 minutes. A deep corner into the box finds Errol Douglas who heads his effort down, it takes a big bounce and goes over the bar. On 55 minutes, Alassan Jones has a shot saved by the Kinnoull keeper.

On 59 minutes, Marky Munro’s shot smacks the post. On the rebound, Errol Douglas is clattered after he attempts a low diving header. Referee gives a goal kick. Very brave by Douglas.

On 64 minutes, Bryan Mwangi is clipped in the box. Everyone in the stadium thought it was a penalty except referee Brown who gave a goal kick.
