Broxburn Athletic vs Haddington Athletic

After back-to-back postponements, It was back to league action for us on Saturday as we hosted Haddington Athletic at Albyn Park.

Haddington Athletic won promotion to the Premier Division after winning the First Division Conference A in the 21/22 season. In season 22/23 they finished a respectable 7th place in the EOSFL Premier Division. This season, so far, the club have had a good start and currently sit 7th in the table. In the reverse fixture back in October, we carved out a hard 1-0 win and it was noticeable how good a footballing side Haddington are. They were very unlucky not to take anything from that game. In their last fixture, they defeated Kinnoull at home 5-0 on Saturday the 9th of December.

Broxburn make 2 changes from the Bo’ness Athletic game in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup. In come Marcus Millar and new signing Jason Jarvis who has joined the club on loan from Bonnyrigg Rose. They replace Lewis Campbell and Callum Heath.

The teams emerge from the tunnel to windy conditions.

Best chance for Haddington so far came on 31 minutes. A Guy McGarry shot is pushed wide by Bob Watt. From the resulting corner Guy McGarry’s header smacks the bar and comes back to Arran Ponton who’s shot hits off Kieran Moyles. The Haddington supporters and coaches were convinced it hit an arm, but the referee waved play on.

A good cross from Gabri Auriemma is well defended by Marky Munro, who gets his body Infront of the Haddington striker and draws the

foul. It’s been a great 10-minute spell from the visitors as they push for the lead.

On 37 minutes, Lewis Turner delivers a good cross that is headed on to Nick Locke whose shot is well saved by Haddington keeper Campbell McLellan.

Haddington’s Robbie Peffers skips past 3 Broxburn defenders. He takes a bad touch and Bob Watt bravely catches the ball down low, as both players collide and are down injured. Fortunately, they both recover and continue.
