DUNDONALD BLUEBELL VS BROXBURN ATHLETIC
It was another huge game for Broxburn on Saturday afternoon, as we
travelled over the bridge to Cardenden, where we take on Dundonald
Bluebell in league action. Going into this match, Dundonald Bluebell are in
9th place in the East of Scotland Premier Division. They lie 3 points behind
Haddington Athletic with 4 games in hand. In their last fixture, Bluebell lost
against local rivals Hill of Beath 1-0 last Tuesday night.
The last time the two clubs met was on Saturday August the 12th, at Albyn
Park. In a 7-goal thriller, Broxburn Athletic won 4-3 with goals by Gary Brass
and an Errol Douglas Hatrick, Dundonald scorers that day were Healy,
Lumsden and Smith.
Broxburn make 2 changes to the side that won on Tuesday night, 2-1
away to Dunbar United. In come Bryan Mwangi & Greg Page who
replace Marcus Miller & Ross Nimmo. Dundonald Bluebell are in their
traditional all blue kits and start with a 4-5-1 formation. Broxburn
Athletic are in their changed kits, Gold and black shirts, black socks
and gold and black socks and start with a 4-4-1-1 formation.
It was a cloudy day in Fife as the teams emerged from the tunnel at
Mooreside Park with Broxburn kicking off proceedings. The away side
are first to threaten on 3 minutes. Striker Gary Brass shoots over the
bar. Not many talking points in the first 15 minutes. Broxburn have had
most of the ball but lack penetration.
On 17 minute, Steven Anderson plays a long ball forward, finding Gary
Brass. Brass jumps for the challenge but is judged to have fouled ex
Arbroath man Barry Sibanda by referee Struthers. In 24 minutes,
Anderson takes a bad touch and gifts Bluebell possession high up
the park. The Dundonald Bluebell trialist is through and just as he is
about to pull the trigger, Greg Page makes a vital block and clears
the danger. Page is booked on 27 minutes for a pull on Dundonald’s
Strang’s jersey.
33 minutes on the clock and Marky Munro does well to beat Ross
Drummond to the ball, He takes it to the by-line and his teasing cross
is well read by Bluebell keeper James Lennox who rises above
everyone to collect. Three minutes later, Dundonald have a rare
break up the park. Ross Drummond’s shot is just wide of the right-hand post. On 40 minutes, Broxburn take a quick free kick that sends
Alassan Jones through on goal. Dundonald Bluebell keeper James
Lennox makes a great save from Jones and on the rebound it falls to
Errol Douglas that is also saved by Lennox. Great goalkeeping.
We have a stop in play for a head knock between Broxburn winger
Bryan Mwangi & Dundonald defender Kyle McCulloch. McCulloch
eventually gets up thankfully, but unfortunately Mwangi has come off
worse and can’t continue.

It was a good day for Broxburn in the end. Another massive three
points and even with ten men we didn’t look under threat. Only three
more needed to get us over the line. We are up in Perth for a huge
match where we can clinch the title next Saturday against Jeanfield
Swifts, unless Musselburgh and Jeanfield Swifts lose points in their
games in hand on Tuesday night.
We wish Dundonald Bluebell all the best for the rest of the season.

It was another trip along the bypass on Tuesday night for Broxburn. Dubar United were the host in what was a huge game in our title charge.

Dunbar United lie in 5TH place in the EOSFL Premier Division, two points behind Jeanfield Swifts and 5 points behind 3rd place Hutchison Vale with 4 games in hand. In the clubs last match, they beat Hutchison Vale away at Ainslie Park 3-2 in league action, on Saturday the 10th of April.

Broxburn make 3 changes that drew 1-1 with Hill of Beath last Saturday. In come Marcus Miller, Kieran Moyles & Nick Locke. They replace, Andy Black, Greg Page and Callum Heath.

Dunbar United are in black and white stripes, black shorts and black and white socks. They start with a 4-5-1 formation.

Broxburn are in their traditional kits, Red and white strips, white shorts, and red and white socks. They start with a 4-4-2 formation.

Broxburn are first to threaten on the 4th minute. Nick Locke takes a good touch, turns, and drives forward. He drags his shot just wide of the left-hand post.

On 8 minutes, Ross Nimmo finds Gary Brass in space in the box. Just as he Is about to shoot, Dunbar United’s defender Michael Barfoot makes an important block and Dunbar clear.

On 16 minutes, Errol Douglas shoots just wide of target.

Dunbar United threaten for the first time on 21 minutes. A Gordon Harris cross finds Bob Berry, whose header is caught by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt.

On 33 minutes, Lewis Turner is booked. As he is down on the ground after a challenge, Dunbar United’s Barfoot hits Turner in the back with the ball. Lot of pushing and shoving and referee Buchan flashes yellows too both players.

Chance Dunbar on 35 minutes. Gordon Harris finds Taylor Hendry whose shot is over the bar.

Broxburn have a goal ruled out. Gary Brass latches on to an Ali Jones cross and pokes home. But the linesman flags for offside.

So unlucky from Dunbar United’s number Sean Stewart on 40 minutes. His dipping shot from 30 yards hits the bar.

On 47 minutes, Lewis Turner’s cross finds Steven Anderson whose header at the back post is wide.

Next in referee Buchan’s book is Dunbar United’s Taylor Hendry on 52 minutes.

A 55-minute corner from Lewis Turner finds Gary Brass who’s deflected corner hits the side netting. From the resulting corner, Lewis Turner delivers a good cross again for Brass whose header is saved well by Dunbar United keeper Sean Brannan.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. Marky Munro’s cross from the right finds Errol Douglas in space. The big striker dinks it over Sean Brennan who is of his line and finds the back of the net. Some finish by Douglas!

We returned home to Albyn Park today with an important league fixture with Fife side Hill of Beath Hawthorn.
Hill Of Beath lie in 7th place in the EOSFL Premier Division. They are three points ahead of local rivals Dundonald Bluebell who have three games in hand over them. In their last fixture, they lost at home to local rivals Crossgate Primrose 3-2 at Keirs Park on the 19th of March.
Broxburn make 4 changes to the side that beat Leith in the League cup on the 30th of March. In come Andy Black, Errol Douglas, Ross Nimmo & Marky Munro. They replace Kieran Moyles, Conor Thomson, Bryan Mwangi & Captain Nick Locke who is suspended today.

The teams have a well observed minutes silence for ex player and secretary Frank ‘Donzo’ Donachie who passed away during the week. We pass our thoughts and condolences to his family.

Not much action so far in the game, been a stop start affair with plenty of fouls.

Big chance for Hill of Beath on 29 minutes, Daniel Watt’s ball over finds Stuart Love who shoots wide from close range.

On 33 minutes, another dangerous cross by Ross Nimmo finds Brass again. The Broxburn forward’s header is blocked on the line by Hawthorn’s Calum Runciman, but referee Hogarth blew for a Hill of Beath free kick, deeming he was fouling the defender when he header the ball.
Ali Jones is booked on 33 minutes for what looked like a strong but fair challenge.
Hill of Beath come close again on 37 minutes. Johnny Galloway’s volley is just wide.
On 44 minutes, Greg Page sees a straight red card. Hill Of Beath’s Daniel Watt capitalises on a mistake by Page and the Broxburn defender fouls and is the last man. Referee Hogarth has no hesitation and instantly flashes a red card.
