LEITH ATHLETIC VS BROXBURN ATHLETIC

After a poor result last weekend, we looked to bounce back with a win this weekend. Leith Athletic are the opposition away at Meadowbank in the East of Scotland League Cup 2nd round.

Leith Athletic lie in 8th position in the East of Scotland First Division. In their last game, they defeated Arniston Rangers 5-1 at Meadowbank on Saturday the 19th of March.

Broxburn make 5 changes to the side who lost To Inverkeithing Swifts. In comes Steven Anderson, Ali Jones, Gary Brass, Connor Thomson and Bryan Mwangi who signed on loan from Dundee United yesterday. They replace Ross Nimmo, Errol Douglas, Darren Downie, Ben Davidson and Marcus Miller.

Leith Athletic are in all red and playing a 4-3-3 formation.

Broxburn are in their changed kit. Gold and black shirts, black shorts and black and gold socks and start with a 4-3-3 formation.

The hosts are first to threaten on 2 minutes. Sonny Swanson drives down the right and his cross finds Stephen Scott who shoots wide of the right-hand post.

8 minutes in, Broxburn captain Nick Locke delivers a good cross that finds Gary Brass. The Broxburn number 14 shoots wide of target from close range.

A good delivery from a Leith corner finds Sean Reekie who heads just wide on 15 minutes.

On 21 minutes, Broxburn came close again. A great delivery from Ali Jones from a corner finds veteran centre back Steven Anderson whose shot is cleared of the line.

A minute later, Conor Thomson’s cross is punched out for a throw in by Leith keeper Jamie Smith.

Another teasing cross by Conor Thomson is pushed clear by Leith Athletic keeper Jamie Smith on 28 minutes.

On 32 minutes, a rare Steven Anderson mistake lets in Leith midfielder Stephen Scott who is on the keeper. Callum Heath comes over from left back and makes a great last-ditch block on Scott to spare Anderson’s blushes.

Good pick out by Greg Page who finds Callum Heath wide left. Heaths cross into the box is well read and collected by Leith keeper Jamie Smith.

On 35 minutes, a Stephen Scott free kick for Leith is wide of target.

On 36 minutes, Ali Jones shoots over from 25 yards.

A teasing Nick Locke cross is turned behind for a Broxburn corner on 38 minutes.

A Lewis Turner shot from just outside the D is over the bar.

On 40 minutes, Leith’s Cammy Stewart is booked for a late tackle.

From a free kick, Ali Jones’s shot deflects over the bar for another corner. From the resulting corner, it deflects out to Lewis Turner whose effort on the volley deflects over the bar.

On 49 minutes, Conor Thomson’s cross from a corner has to much on it and is over Greg Page at the back post.

Leith have the best chance of the match so far on 53 minutes. Slack defending from Broxburn lets Sonny Swanson through on the right. His cross finds Kayne Paterson who misses from close range.

A minute later, Kayne Paterson hits the post, but referee Ormiston blows for offside.

Well worked move by Broxburn on 58 minutes. Callum Heath finds Ali Jones whose shot is over the bar.

Lewis Turner is booked on 63 minutes for a late tackle.

Ross Nimmo skins the Leith left back and delivers a good cross. Nimmo’s cross finds Gary Brass who heads just wide on 64 minutes.

On 66 minutes, Ross Nimmo’s shot is cleared and a minute later another Nimmo effort is blocked.

On 68 minutes, Nick Locke shoots way wide of target. On 70 minutes Locke has another effort that is right at Leith keeper Jamie Smith.

It has been end to end stuff so far. Broxburn have had most of the ball, but Leith have competed well so far.

Inverkeithing Swifts lie in 13TH place in the East of Scotland Premier Division. In their last fixture last weekend, they lost to Haddington Athletic away 3-1.

Broxburn make 5 changes from last weekend’s 2-1 loss away at Glenrothes. In come Kieran Moyles, Ross Nimmo, Ben Davidson & Darren Downie and Callum Heath. They replace Steven Anderson, Gary Brass, Ali Jones, Marky Munro & Callum Bremner.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional strips. Red and white shirts, white shorts, and red and white socks. They are playing a 4-4-2 formation.

Inverkeithing Swifts are in yellow shirts, blue shorts and yellow socks and start with a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Broxburn are first to threaten. Nick Locke does well to force the corner. A very inviting corner by Callum Heath has no takers and rolls out for a goal kick.

In the third minute, a good switch of play by Greg Page finds Ross Nimmo out wide right. Nimmo crosses for Nick Locke who heads over.

On the 6th minute, the visitors threatened for the first time. Ben Finnan’s shot is pushed wide by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt. From the resulting corner, the ball comes out to Swifts number 4 John Binnie and Watt pushes it wide again for a second corner. Broxburn eventually clear the third corner.

Ross Nimmo looks for Errol Douglas. The big Broxburn striker forces Inverkeithing defender Ben Ramage into a mistake and Broxburn have a corner. Callum Heath takes and Kieran Moyles heads over the bar.

19 minutes in and Inverkeithing have a corner. A good cross finds Luke Mahady whose header from close range is saved by Bob Watt.

GOAL! Inverkeithing open the scoring and it’s a cracker. Aaron Wood strike finds the top corner from just outside of the D.

Two booking in two minutes for the visitors. On 29 minutes, Michael Paterson is booked for a foul on Callum Heath and on 30 minutes John Binnie is booked for a foul on Darren Downie.

On 34 minutes, Inverkeithing’s Michael Paterson who was just booked takes out Lewis Turner and is lucky not to get a second yellow from referee Buchan.

On 61 minutes, Nick Locke goes down in the box and referee points to the spot. Up steps Lewis Turner whose penalty is saved by Inverkeithing Swifts keeper Michael Gibb.

Great cross by Conor Thomson is only cleared as far as Lewis Turner whose shot deflects wide for a corner.

Big chance for Errol Douglas on 66 minutes. It falls for the big man in the box, but he can’t get his positioning right and Inverkeithing clear their lines.

On 68 minutes after a constant Broxburn onslaught. Inverkeithing break forward and Bob Watt makes 2 great saves, first from Luke Mahady and on the rebound he saves from Aaron Wood.

Ross Nimmo has the ball in the net, but referee Buchan blows straight away for offside. Looked a very tight call from my viewpoint. A member of the Broxburn coaching staff is booked on 71 minutes.

Ross Nimmo delivers a good teasing ball into the box. Nick Locke hits fresh air with his strike and Inverkeithing clear their lines again.
