On a very windy arena this game was going to be tough with strong winds blowing slightly across the park .it was the visitors who had the element advantage at kick off .The first chance how ever fell to the hosts in the first minute when Ryan O’Connor and his good ball into the box from the bye line had to be cleared before any off his team mates got near the ball . Broxburn took the lead on 4 minutes when Dominico Gibson had a throw in on the left he threw to Conor Kelly ,making his return after a long lay off , who laid it back to CRAIG SCOTT thirty yards out and he caught it sweet firing into the top right hand corner giving Ross Wortley in goals no chance . A minute later at the other end Scott Russell twisted through challenges in the box before firing off a shot that Connor Wallace saved . Ross Nimmo got down the right on 11 minutes and his ball into the box was cleared out to Scott but this time his shot vent over the bar from similar position from where he scored his goal . O’Connor got down the right hand side two minutes later and his cross found Calum Murray who saw his shot deflected for a corner . Just after the quarter hour mark a short free kick to Gibson saw him pull his shot wide right from 20 yards out on the left . Half way through the half Nicholas Locke sent a free kick over the bar . Good play between Locke and Miller sent a ball into Connor Kelly who’s glancing header went over the bar . Cameron Rioss forced a good save after being set up by Nicholas Locke . Broxburn doubled their lead three minutes before the break when Cameron Ross passed to ROSS NIMMO out on the left he cut inside and from 20 yards out left of the goals he curled a shot high into the net another goal of Quality . Just before the break the hosts looked to certain to get a goal back when Calum Murray got in the box and just as he was about to pull the trigger Andrew Gillen got across and his tackle was timed to perfection and he cleared the danger .
Greg Binnie on at half time almost opened his account on his return in quick time but Wortley saved well from his shot two minutes after the restart .Despite playing the second half against the wind Broxburn were taking the game to their hosts .On 49 minutes a corner into the box was cleared out only as far as Nimmo but his shot was well left of the target . Alexander Miller got down the right and his excellent ball into the box was cut out for a corner . The corner came into the box and Miller saw his attempt at goal go just wide right of the target . The Swifts got back into the game on the hour mark when a free kick wide right and about 15 yards out from the bye line .JOHN FRANCIS stepped up to take it and he fired a rocket into the roof of the net . Connor Wallace done well to save from Scott Russell two minutes later . The Swifts had their tails up and on 66 minutes good play saw the ball into the box and Murray crashed a attempt of the woodwork before the ball was cleared . Miller set up Ross on 67 minutes but Wortley saved well . Nicholas Locke made a good run and his shot was well saved on 75 minutes .Miller saw a shot saved 2 minutes later . On 81 minutes greg binnie could not get the ball over the line when the loose ball came off him and bounced of the post before being cleared . Shaun Harrison sent a great pass to Locke who turned well but sent his shot just over the bar . Broxburn eased the pressure with two minutes remaining of the ninety when a long ball into the box was about to be brought down by Alexander Miller when he was bundled to the ground and the referee had no option to award the penalty to which CAMERON ROSS stepped up and kept up his record of scoring from the spot since he signed from Leith Athletic . With the last touch of the ball a ball into the host box deep into injury time eventually was forced over the line by GREG BINNIE . A 4-1 win on paper is good but the hosts made it difficult for us today and we will wrap the points up safely and stay top of the league and move on .

Broxburn started well enough with Craig Scott firing in a free kick in the first minute that Darren Walker in the hosts goal clutched out the air with ease . Cameron Ross put a good ball across the box on four minutes with Craig Spalding turned the ball over his own bar . The home side came in to the game with the visitors falling out of it a bit and a minute later James Redpath fired a shot wide left from 18 yards out . Stephane Murray made room before crossing into the box it was cleared out as far as Craig Spalding who saw his shot just miss the target on the left .Ross Nimmo put a good ball through to Alexander Miller who saw his shot go just over the bar . The home side took the lead on 25 minutes when a ball into the visitors box was not properly cleared and when the ball fell to JAMES REDPATH on the edge of the box he fired it past Connor Wallace to the delight of his team mates . This should have been the wake up call the visitors needed and on 25 minutes Gordon Donaldson got down the right and fired a good ball across the hosts box but there were no team mates there to connect . With ten minutes left Miller burst into the box and his shot was deflected wide left by the tackling Edinburgh United defender .The visitors should have gone in at half time on level terms when Ross Nimmo got to the bye line after a mistake in the home defence on the right hand side and he picked out Miller at the back post who’s header went over the open goal with everyone expecting the net to ripple .
The second half started with more purpose for the visitors and Nimmo fired a shot wide right of the target after 2 minutes . Two minutes later at the other end Daniel McKinlay got into the right hand side of the box but pulled his shot wide of the left hand post . Broxburn got on level terms when winning a corner on the right the initial attempt at goal came off the bar but fell to GORDON DONALDSON 5 yards out to prod the ball home on fifty minutes .Another near chance for the visitors on 56 minutes when Dominico Gibson shot over the bar as the visitors went for the winner . Ross Nimmo was getting down the right hand side and again he put a great ball into the danger area on 63 minutes but the home defence dealt with it and cleared the danger . A couple of minutes later a ball into the edge of the box found Miller try an overhead kick but the attempt went tamely past the left hand post . The same player got down the right hand side and with other options in the box he fired a shot wide left from the right hand side of the box . A free kick in from Nimmo found Cameron Ross who saw his shot saved . The visitors took the lead with four minutes left of normal time when a ball in from the right hand side found ALEXANDER MILLER on the edge of the box who turned and shot past the stranded keeper .Broxburn protected their lead with a short corner on full time that eventually saw Miller shoot and Walker was forced to save at his bottom right hand corner . In injury time the points were sealed whe a ball over the home defence was met by the on running ALEXANDER MILLER who shrugged off the defender that was challenging him before sending the ball past the keeper and ease the visitors worries of any equaliser .
Not the best performance today but three points keep’s us top and if we can pick up points when not at our best then take it and move on .Next week’s game at home to Preston Athletic in the league gives us a chance to up the performance rating and keep our place at the top .

A minute later at the other end a good ball in from the right found the head of Gary Fergus who should have done better than send his header over the bar . MacLaren set up Robbie Holden but the latter’s header was well saved by Wallace . Just before the half hour mark a corner into the box was cleared by Christopher Townsley but only as far as Connor MacLaren who’s shot went just wide left .A corner for the hosts was cleared out but only as far as Christopher Scott who’s shot was attempted to be diverted goal ward by Christopher Anton but he turned it wide right . Tradgedy struck with seven minutes of the half remaing when Conor Kelly went down after a challenge and the game was stopped as fear of a serious injury was quickly established .The game was held up for almost 45 minutes before restarting the remaining 7 minutes of the half after Conor was taken by Ambulance to Perth hospital . With two minutes of the half remaining a good ball into the box was met by Nicholas Locke who knocked it to Greg Binnie who in turn headed wide right of the target to the disappointment of the striker .
Early in the second half Paul Simpson created room before shooting from the edge of the box just over the bar . On 55 minutes a great ball through to Locke from Binnie was thwarted by the advancing keeper who done enough to divert the ball for a corner with Locke ready to strike . Christopher Dodd forced a good save from Wallace on 58 minutes . At the other end Craig Scott saw an attempt at goal well saved . The opening goal came a minute later when a shot from Holden was well saved by Wallace and it broke out to SCOTT SMITH who fired into the bottom left hand corner . A good free kick into the box found the head of Greg Binnie but it went wide left . Ross Nimmo had a shot that went wide right with 11 minutes remaing in the darkening gloom . With 7 minutes left Jeanfield sealed the points when Scott Smith was brought down by Michael Linton in the box and FRASER SMITH scored from the spot kick awarded . The visitors pressed to get back in the game but the Jeanfield defence held out under pressure with chances being created for the visitors but none finding the back of the net . Not a good day for us or indeed Conor Kelly who was diagnosed as having dislocated his arm and not as complicated or as bad as was first feared .He was released from hospital later that evening with his arm repositioned and pain killers . We wish him a speedy recovery .

On the 39th minute mark Jack Spence shot wide right for the home side . A corner at the other end with four minutes left found Connor Kelly who’s header was cleared of the line . Broxburn got a cushion to go into half time with two minutes remaining of the half when a long ball down the right was chased and caught by Connor Kelly who cut along the bye line before crossing to the back post for ALEXANDER MILLER to head home . Connor Wallace saved from Arron Singh in the last minute of the half but it would not half counted as he was flagged for offside .

In what was going to be a tight game it was Christopher Dodd who had the first opportunity for the hosts after 4 minutes when he fired in a shot that didn’t trouble Connor Wallace in the visitors goal . Four minutes later a corner in from the left saw Christopher Anton get a free header but it went wide right of the target . Broxburn created a chance on ten minutes when Greg Binnie got down the right and crossed into the box where Connor Kelly headed over the bar . The visitors had strong claims for a penalty when Kelly was fouled in the box but the referee waved away claims . On sixteen minutes a corner in from the left was met by Nicholas Locke who was adjudged to have deliberately handled the ball and was booked for his trouble .Jack Beasley got down the right in twenty minutes but his cross into the box was inches to far in front of the incoming Binnie . two minutes later Dodd made room twenty five yards out to shoot but fired it over the bar . On 38 minutes Ross Nimmo sent a ball into the box that Binnie headed wide when unchallenged .With four minutes left of the half Dodd’s saw a shot blocked for a corner by Christopher Townsley .
The hosts took the lead in the first minute of the second half when a ball in from the left found GARY FERGUS at the back of the box and he fired home . Two minutes later Dodd’s found Wallace at his best saving from him at the expense of a corner . Nicholas Locke got on the end of a free kick deep into the opponents box but he headed wide right of the target . The equaliser did come on the hour mark when Nimmo laid the ball off to Andrew Gillen who put the ball into the box and found GORDON DONALDSON who scored to level the match . Fergus had a good opportunity to regain the lead two minutes later with a free header from a corner but it went wide left . The hosts did take the lead on 62 minutes when a ball into the box was knocked back out and as the Broxburn defence moved out the ball was lobbed over them where clearly three Jeanfield players were offside but no flag was raised by the assistant and CHRISTOPHER DODD slotted the ball home . Wallace had to tip a shot over the bar two minutes later . with ten minutes remaining Dodd’s saw an effort cleared off the line . Extra time was needed when with two minutes remaining Greg Binnie knocked on a long ball over the home defence for CONOR KELLY to run on to and score to extend the game .
In the first period of extra time Conor Kelly came close on 100 minutes when his shot from the left went just wide of the right hand post .Craig Scott was set up by Binnie two minutes later but his effort went wide left of the goals .
The hosts took the lead in the first minute of the second period of extra time when Rhys Davies was through and Wallace saved his effort for a corner .When the corner came in it fell into the middle of the box where AARON WHITEHEAD prodded the ball home .. With the visitors trying to get another equaliser Jeanfield secured their passage with the last kick of the ball when a quick throw found RICHARD DONOVAN in the box and he scored before the referee blew for time up at the restart . A bare bones squad today but everyone gave their all and were maybe unfortunate to go out the cup .
