Crossgates v Broxburn Ath

Attendance 125

Broxburn were first to threaten the home goal but the move broke down when Crossgates broke away to the other end down the right and a ball into the box found Archie Campbell who shot into the left hand side net . Campbell again on 4 minutes had a chance but Shaun Donoghue saved well A corner for the home side saw Donoghue save well but the whistle had gone for a free kick to the visitors anyway . A blow on 16 minutes when Daniel Nimmo had to go off being replaced by Craig Newall . Greg Binnie should have put his side in front when a long ball through saw him one on one with the keeper who blocked his shot and when it broke back to Andrew Gillen he fired well over the bar . On 25 minutes good play by Craig Newall set up Binnie who’s shot was spilled before Robertson in the home goal recovered quickly to grab the ball before Tait pounced . Half an hour gone and a corner in from the left was met by the head of Gordon Donaldson but he could only steer the header wide right of the target . Campbell had anther chance on 39 minutes when he shot wide of the target . With the half coming to a close Harrison was left by Campbell on the by line and when he crossed his team mate turned it home but was rightly called offside at the back post . Craig McGuire had a good turn and cross but Mark McKenzie headed over the bar .

Broxburn created a couple of chances at the start of the second half through Binnie and Donaldson . Then Crossgates had a succession of corners that came to nothing . On 54 minutes Greg Binnie was clear but shot over the bar . On the hour mark a corner for the visitors from the left was met by Shaun Harrison but was disappointed to head over . Brian Ritchie made a good run but shot wide of the goals . Shaun Harrison met another corner on 65 minutes with the same result a header over the bar . Ross Nimmo sent a free kick in from the left that crashed of the far post and away from danger . Donaldson saw a shot deflected for a corner on 76 minutes . Craig Newal saw a great run and shot saved with nine minutes left . Against the run of play of the second half Crossgates got the goal that secured the three points  a ball to the back post camre off the post and in the melee ARCHIE CAMPBELL was adjudged to have forced the ball over the line which was hotly disputed by the visitors with the assistant looking unsure and hesitant on returning to the half way line to indicate a goal .

Disappointing result after the chances created and injuries still hampering selection . . We will get back to training and prepare for the visit of Tynecastle next Saturday with a 2-30pm kick off .

Match Report

East of Scotland Premier League – Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale v Broxburn Athletic – 08/01/2022

Broxburn made the short trip into Edinburgh to Ainslie Park for their first game of 2022 to face Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale who had not played a league game since 18 December when they had triumphed over Dundonald Bluebell.

Broxburn made 4 changes to the side who lost to Linlithgow Rose prior to the year end with Donoghue replacing Wallace in goal. Ross Nimmo for, Mair, Greenhill for Nicol and Brass for Allum.

The Brox started on the front foot in the 2nd minute Brass sending Binnie away down the left whose cross was on the money but there were no takers to get on the end of it.

Greenhill then played a glorious ball to Gray who tried to send Brass away in the clear but good defending from keeper Adams and Lally prevented a clear chance.

The home side showed they weren’t just there to make up the numbers Cunningham playing the ball to Findlay who struck a wind assisted looping shot which just cleared the bar.

In the 6th minute a Gillen error was capitalised on by Findlay who laid the ball off to the right to Viola but he curled his effort over the bar.

In 10 minutes Broxburn worked the ball forward well Brass laying the ball back to Gray at the edge of the box whose shot was blocked, the ball broke to Greenhill who struck his shot well but was deflected for a corner.

The Lothian Thistle trialist was booked.

The corner was worked short between Ross Nimmo and Gray but the cross eluded all those in red.

Deland was a source of danger down the left and he put over a great cross which was well taken by Donoghue with Douglas waiting to pounce.

The home side were having a good spell and in 16 minutes Renton shot from 20 yards forced Donoghue into a good save to his right.

Broxburn responded with a good move of their own in 22 minutes a Newall cross was flicked on by Brass to Ross Nimmo on the left hand side of the penalty box but he curled his shot wide.

In 24 minutes from a Gray corner Murray won the header at the back post which he directed back across goal but once again no one in a Brox shirt could take advantage.

A minute later and Donoghue was called into action again to save a Viola shot.

The deadlock was broken in 26 minutes Binnie being brought down on the edge of the box, GRAY took the resulting free kick which he curled expertly into the top right hand corner for his first Broxburn goal in only his second start following signing on loan from Gala.

Lally was booked for the home side on the half hour.

In 33 minutes Gillen went down heavily and needed treatment following a Cunningham challenge.

In 37 minutes with Broxburn failing to clear their lines, the ever dangerous Deland made ground down the left past Newall and fired in a cross which found DOUGLAS unmarked 6 yards out which he tapped into the visitors net.

In 42 minutes Gillen was unable to continue Nicol replacing him.

Lothian Thistle almost had a half time lead when Renton chipped the ball over the defence with Cunningham running in behind them he was inches away from connecting.

Half Time: Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale 1 – 1 Broxburn Athletic

The home side started the 2nd half better Renton putting over a great cross which no one got a touch to.

In 49 minutes Broxburn had a glorious chance and should have taken the lead once more when Gray again at the centre of the move, played the ball to Nicol whose pass found Ross Nimmo clear on the right one on one, he struck the shot well which was saved by Adams.

In an end to end game Renton forced Donoghue into a fine diving save to his left to prevent the home side grabbing a lead.

Gray was next to have an effort at goal being set up nicely by Newall after a great run but Adams saved high to his right.

In 58 minutes Tait replaced Ross Nimmo.

In 59 minutes the home goal had a bit of an escape with a Brass effort deflected wide for a corner. From the corner Greenhill cracked the ball towards goal but hits Binnie when it looked to be on target but the defence scrambled the ball clear.

Broxburn continued to press Nicol doing well finding Gray with a pass but once again just curled wide of target.

Next it was Newall in 62 minutes going on a great run playing a 1-2 with Tait but his shot missing the right post by inches. Tait fired into the side netting after good work down the left in the following minute.

In 70 minutes Gray was booked for a tackle on Findlay.

In 71 minutes a Cunningham cross was headed behind by Dan Nimmo with Donoghue punching clear from the corner.

In 73 minutes more good build up play from the Brox, Brass and Binnie setting up Gray but this time his shot was well off target.

Lothian Thistle replaced Doherty and Findlay with Kemp and Signorini.

In 78 minutes nearly a freak goal for Broxburn Gray well inside his own half with what looked like way over hitting a clearance with the wind assisting it bounced and had Adams in the home goal struggling to keep it out of the net!

In 80 minutes Deland combined with Signorini which produced a fine shot which Donoghue pushed round the post for a corner. From the Cunningham corner Donoghue was very unconvincing with his attempted punched clearance but the ball was scrambled away.

However, disaster struck in 82 minutes from a long ball forward which was allowed to bounce Newall tried to head back to the onrushing Donoghue, substitute KEMP nipped in and poked the ball into the visitors net.

Greenhill was then booked for pulling back Renton.

In 86 minutes things got even worse for the Brox, the ball bounced up off the surface and hit Gray on the hand, in frustration the ball was kicked away and hit Cunningham. The referee then produced a second yellow card followed by a red!

Brass was booked in the aftermath.

In 91 minutes Kemp set up his fellow substitute Signorini who shot straight at Donoghue when he should have scored.

In 93 minutes Broxburn’s last chance Greenhill’s cross was well taken by Adams with Binnie in the mix for any keeper error.

The chances were there for Broxburn to win today’s game but these weren’t taken and the loss of a poor goal proved fatal. Next week it’s the team who they last beat, Camelon, who visit the Albyn in what is a vital game and a chance to end this run of results.

Hill of Beath v Broxburn Ath

Attendance approx. 100

In a horrible day for football on a sodden pitch it was going to be a battle . The hosts had the first attempt at goal on 4 minutes after good play Joe Kinninmonth tried from 30 yards out but did not trouble Wallace  .A minute later Craig Newall sent Andrew Gillen free down the right but James Donaldson palmed the ball away before any attackers got near the ball . Newall got down the right again 5 minutes later and his ball to the back post was met by the head of Greg Binnie but Donaldson saved and his defence cleared the danger. On eleven minutes Greg Binnie fought well at the bye line before crossing across the box and the home defence had to look lively as the ball was heading goal ward and they cleared of the line . With 15 minutes on the clock a bizarre decision by the officials when a ball played through on the right , Ross Nimmo who was in a offside position stopped as Ross Allum who was onside ran through collected the ball to score but the referee gave the offside . At the other end a ball into the visitors box was cleared by Daniel Nimmo as far as Johnathan Galloway who fired well over from 30 yards out .A Ross Allum free kick from the right was cleared to just outside the box where Ross Nimmo fired over the bar .Ross Nimmo made a good run down the right before sending a good cross into the box where Ross Allum headed wide of the target .Binnie made a great run down the left before setting up Nimmo who’s shot was cleared for a corner . The corner in was sent to the back post where Chris Townsley headed over the bar .Paul Quin had a couple of opportunity’s for the home side before the end of the half with Wallace gathering easily and the other going wide right of the target .

The first opportunity of the second half came when Binnie made his way into the left hand side of the box before crossing low across the six yard box but there was no takers for the teasing pass .Colin Adamson was just on the park on 50 minutes when he was set up in midfield he gathered the ball before rushing his shot wide left from 25 yards out . Half way through the half and the Visitors were sustaining some decent pressure on the home defence without producing the cutting edge to open the scoring . With time running out for both sides a great ball from Gordon Donaldson found Jackson Barker who headed wide left . The home side provided a sucker punch to the visitors when a ball into the box was cleared and went out as far as MICHAEL FLEMING  who from 25 yards out fired through a line of players past the unsighted Wallace in the visitors goal to the delight of his team mates in injury time  .

Very disappointing not to take anything from the game with the players putting in a lot of effort and who knows if the officials had got  the big call right in the first half how the game may have ended up .

Blantyre Vics v Broxburn Athletic

Attendance 160

On a heavy overplayed park it was going to be tough .  Ross Nimmo was the first to have a pop at goals in three minutes but Jordan Pettigrew in the hosts goals gathered comfortably On six minutes Blantyre should have taken the lead  when Aaron Black was through on goal but Connor Wallace saved well before Jordan Wright cleared the danger . Ross Allum had an opportunity to score in 10 minutes when trying to lob the keeper from close in . Ross Nimmo made a good run down the right before sending a good ball into the box before Pettigrew  cut the ball out before reaching the strikers . Half way through the half Ross Allum blasted well over from the edge of the box . Shortly after a succession of corners for the visitors failed to get a score with desperate defending by the home side . Blantyre took the lead against the run of play when good play down the left produced a ball into the box that the visiting defence did not deal with and CONNOR O’DONNELL steadied himself before wrong footing Wallace to fire home . Blantyre got a lift from this and shortly after may have gone further ahead when Lewis Warnock fired a ball across the box but there were no team mates to take a opportunity . Broxburn got on level terms on 43 minutes when Nimmo put a good ball into the danger area for ROSS ALLUM to score .

The second half started with Blantyre getting the first chance when Black sent a ball to Ronan Kearney who shot wide . It was Broxburn who took the lead though on 52 minutes when Andrew Gillen put a ball into the box where it was knocked down to ROSS ALLUM to fire home from close range . Fifty seven minutes gone and the ball broke out to O’Donnell who fired a shot that Wallace saved well . Blantyre were trying hard to get back on level terms and Kearney forced a save from Wallace on 65 minutes . Ross Allum saw an effort come off the bar that anywhere else would have been in the back of the net  .They got on level terms a minute later when good play again down the right saw a cross met by CONOR O’DONNELL  to fire his side level . The visitors had a chance on 80 minutes when Nimmo gave the ball to Gillen before firing a good cross over where Brass headed over . Broxburn thought they had secured a win on 86 minutes when Ross Nimmo put a ball into the box for ROSS ALLUM to score  his hat trick . But Blantyre had other ideas and a minute later they equalised when GRANT BRENNAN got the ball in the box and fired home past Wallace .

Extra time and the first period was pretty much lacking in chances apart from when Aaron Black was through one on one with Wallace but the big Keeper saved well and the danger was cleared .

Wallace save well from Kearney at the start of the second period of extra time . At the other end Andrew Mair saw a shot saved . On 114 minutes a good corner to the back post saw Greg Nicol head over the bar .  With four minutes remaining Andrew Mair saw another attempt blocked and Blantyre raced away through Aaron Black and fired a shot wide right from the left .  Penalties was now needed to separate the two sides  . Blantyre went first with Dale Jones scoring  ,Jordan Wright stepped up for the visitors and made no mistake from the spot . Connell Boyle  scored his sides second with Wallace almost saving . Greg Nicol  gave the home side the adavntage when failing to score . Aaron Black made it 3 out of 3 for the home side .Jackson Barker was next for the visitors but his miss put the hosts in the driving seat . Connor Wallace gave his side a chance by saving two goal hero Conor O’Donnell’s penalty .Hat trick scorer for Broxburn stepped up to keep his side in it but fired over the bar giving Blantyre Vics a passage into the next round . We wish our hosts all the best for the next round .

The home side took the initiative from the kick off and Mitchel Taylor was allowed to run at the defence before seeing his shot at goal deflected for a corner by Craig Newall .Darren Gribben sent a good ball in from the left  but his team mate sent his attempt just wide right of the target . A free kick into the box by Greenhill was met by the challenge of the keeper and Gary Brass who was adjudged to have fouled the keeper . On 17 minutes a corner to the back post was headed back in to the danger area by Wright but Andrew Gillen shot over the bar from six yards out . The home side opened the scoring on 25 minutes when a good move ended up with MICHAEL TAYLOR who turned Adam Murray before firing past Connor Wallace . Just after the half hour mark Darren Gribben forced a save from Wallace . The home side doubled their  advantage on 33 minutes when Jackson Cowan lofted a ball into the box and Connor Wallace came to claim it it somehow slipped through his hands and fell at the feet of MITCHELL TAYLOR who had the easiest tasks to stroke the ball into the unguarded net .  A minute later a corner in to the visitors box found the feet of on fire Taylor but this time his shot did not trouble Wallace who gathered easily .. With the first half coming to a close Gary Brass saw a good header well saved . Jordan Wright saw an effort from an incoming corner go just over the bar .

Darren Gribben was the first to try for goals in the second have on 47 minutes but Wallace saved comfortably in the end . Taylor was going for his hat trick when he fired a shot from 18 yards that Wallace saved and gathered at second attempt . Ross Allum had a chance on 61 minutes but couldn’t get the bouncing ball under control to get a proper shot away . With light fading the floodlights were switched on in 66 mins not only did this switch the lights on it switched the visitors on too as 2 minutes later a Greenhill corner in from the left was met by the unmarked GORDON DONALDSON who headed home . The visitors were on level terms 3 minutes later when a corner into the box was cleared out to half way where Tom Cowley sent the ball straight back into the box where Mark Sharp half cleared the ball to Jordan Wright who headed down to GARY BRASS who fired home into the bottom left hand corner with Jakub Welna  in the home goal no where . Broxburn almost took the lead when Ross Nimmo fired a ball across the box but was agonisingly to much in front of Binnie running in on goal . A good run by Aidan Mclduff sent the ball out to Lewis McArthur who’s ball into the box was stopped by Murray and cleared by Greenhill .  . At the other end a throw in to Gary Brass saw the forwards attempt deflect for a corner just past the right post . Deep into injury time a timely tackle at one end saw the visitors break to the other with four attackers charging down the home defence Ross Nimmo got the ball on the right and fired a ball low across the box where this time GREG BINNIE timed his run to perfection to score the winner from six yards out to the delight of the Broxburn Contingent .

In the end a great fight back and showed the spirit that is in this squad . Nobody would have gave an earthly of them taking anything from the game at half time . The fact at  2-2 and deep into the long injury time added on we had four forwards chasing forward looking for a winner speaks volumes for them all . Next week we have a Challenge cup tie at Blantyre Vics  Saturday 20th November with a 1-30pm kick off (please note kick off Time ) . Details of admission procedures will be posted when we get them .

Musselburgh Ath v Broxburn Ath

attendance 265

Broxburn had the first opportunity of the game in three minutes when a ball in to the box was laid off to Joe Tait from Greg Binnie but his shot went well over the bar . A minute later at the other end full back Jordan Orru made a great run before laying off to Mathu King but Shaun Harrison thwarted the danger with a well timed tackle inside the box .  Greg Binnie intercepted a poor ball out of the defence and got to the bye line down the left firing over a cross which was just out of reach of team mate Ross Allum . The visitors suffered a blow on 9 minutes when Daniel Nimmo had to go off after stretching for a ball on the bye line . The opening goal fell to the visitors when a throw in deep on the left found Allum his ball in to the box found Binnie who laid the ball back outside the box for GREG NICOL to fire in to the bottom left hand corner . Musselburgh almost got back on level terms on 17 minutes when a corner in from the left was headed goal ward but the visiting defence cleared of the line before a overhead kick sailed over the bar from a Musselburgh forward . A great ball in from the right by Callum Donaldson was destined for Conor Thomson at the back post , but Andrew Gillen headed behind for the corner before it reached it’s target . Half way through the half a corner played out to Declan O’Kane but he saw his effort crash off the crossbar and over . A minute later at the other end a mix up in the home defence almost let Tait in but he could not take advantage of the opportunity that fell to him .  A free kick just outside the box on the left hand side earned Andre Gillen the first yellow of the game . The free kick in landed at Mathu King but his shot was a soft effort straight into Connor Wallace’s arms . Over half an hour gone and Conor Thomson fired in a shot that crashed off the crossbar and fell to another home player who saw his effort saved for a corner . The corner in was met by the head of King but siled well over the bar . The same player saw a shot saved comfortably by Wallace on 34 minutes . Almost immediately Musselburgh got on level terms  when BRADLEY WHYTE made a good run into the box before firing past Wallace . On 39 minutes Allum sent Tait through on the right but he pulled his shot wide left of the target .Broxburn should have had a penalty when Allum was blatantly bundled to the ground but for some reason the referee seen nothing wrong . The home side took a half time lead when a good run down the left by BRADLEY WHYTE saw him tackled just inside the box he quickly recovered and shot past the advancing Wallace .

Into the second half and Dean ballantyne out muscled Harrison before firing a shot that was well saved by Wallace .  Greg Binnie layed off to Allum on 52 minutes  who tried to lob the keeper but having done that his effort came off the cross bar and was cleared from the area . Whyte was through on goal on 53 minutes looking for his hat trick but Wallace saved well . Andy Mair saw a 20 yard effort saved on 55minutes . The visitors should have been on level terms when great play down the right saw a ball played to the lonely Ross Allum with clear goals he blasted over the bar from 12 yards out . Broxburn were pressing for the equaliser and the home defence was remaining resolute  . With five minutes remaining Ross Allum tried to glance a header into the net  but Ross McRae saved easily .  A free kick 25 yards out on the left was sent into the six yard box by David Greenhill but with a line of Broxburn forwards in there none could turn the ball home .  A minute later Newall fired a shot over the bar from just inside the box .  With Broxburn pressing for an equaliser a quick counter attack saw AARON MURREL run clear into the opponents half with Connor Wallace coming thirty five yards out his box to retrieve the ball both players missed each other and The Musselburgh sub regained his composure to roll the the ball into undefended goal for a 3-1 win with the last kick of the ball . Not a good day with chances a plenty to win many a game . Need to regroup and prepare well for Whitehill Welfare at home next Saturday

Newburgh v Broxburn Athletic

Attendance  80

With the home side in transition and up against a premier league side it was going to take a major upset to see the home side through to the next round . It was Broxburn who created the first opening from a corner , after 2 minutes that saw Shaun Harrison head over .A minute later another corner was played in and it was cleared out to Joe Tait who fired a shot just over from thirty yards out . Newburgh had an effort from Elliot McCafferty  but it was well wide and high of the target . Ten minutes into the game and a corner won after good play was played to the back of the box where Ross Allum  saw his goal bound shot saved very well by Callum Sutherland .  A great ball in from the left from Donaldson saw Ross Nimmo head over . The opening did come in 18 minutes when  a corner into the box was met by SHAUN HARRISON who’s header crept over the line despite defenders on the line trying to clear it .Elliot McCafferty had another effort that was easily gathered on 21 minutes but showed the home side were not there to make up numbers . Broxburn continued to dominate and the second goal came when good play down the left ended with a ball into the box half cleared out to JOE TAIT who fired home . A minute later on 26 minutes  David Greenhill fired a shot inches wide with the keeper beaten from thirty yards .Ross Hutchison fired over a cross to Ross Allum who saw his shot force another great save from Sutherland . A minute later Allum was through but again Sutherland done well to thwart the striker . As the visitors piled on the pressure a corner in was headed goal ward by Barker and it was cleared of the line .  Forty-one minutes on the clock and yet again Sutherland saved well from Allum after a great ball in from Donaldson . Gordon Donaldson himself saw a great shot saved by tipping over the bar on 43 minutes . On the half time whistle a ball into the box was cleared to DAVID GREENHILL who fired into the bottom left hand corner from just inside the right side of the box .

The second half started as the first had finished with the visitors pressing for more . The fourth was not long in coming , two minutes into the half , a good clearance from Shaun Harrison saw him put ROSS NIMMO through on goal with the home defence crying offside , but the wee man did not stop and made sure from 12 yards out giving the keeper no chance . Tait saw a shot go over on 49 minutes . Five minutes later Ross Nimmo and Joe Tait carved out a chance but again Sutherland saved from Tait this time . The home side showed they were still trying when ELLIOT McCAFFERTY  raced through and just inside the box was met by Keeper Shaun Donoghue who lost out in a dual for the ball before sliding the ball home from an angle . On the hour mark Ross Hutchison fired a shot which was well saved again by Sutherland  for a corner . The corner into the back of the box was met by Donaldson who shot just past the left hand post .Gary Brass on for Ross Nimmo saw his shot come off the post but ROSS ALLUM was there to  knock it over the line from a yard out  to make it 5-1 . A minute later JACKSON BARKER made a good run through the defence to fire home his side sixth goal . Jack Beesley sent a great ball into the box which was met by an off balanced Gary Brass who’s effort went just wide left .  A minute later Liam Ireland put a ball through to Brass but he was no different from his team mates when Sutherland yet again saved his effort . The last effort from the visitors with five minute remaining saw Liam Ireland cross into the box and Allum saw his attempt come of the woodwork and go clear .

A professional job with a much changed side between injuries and holidays and cup tied players it was pleasing to see the squad show they can gel when called upon . A home tie the reward against University of Stirling  with a date to be arranged . Another good point no disciple issues or further injuries to give us any problem going forward .

With both teams making enforced changes it was a hard one to call . In 2 minutes a throw in from Ryan Finnie landed at Jordan Sinclair who so his shot go wide of the target . Along ball through on twenty minutes was just too long for Greg Binnie and the keeper gathered .  With 25 minutes gone Gordon Donaldson was booked for a foul twenty yards out . The resultant free kick taken by Jordan Sinclair  went inches over the bar .  A good one two  involving Grant Nelson and Ciaran Heeps  saw Nelson cross the ball deep into the box and Calum Smith met it but headed just past the post . Just past the half hour mark great play by Sean Stewart saw him get the ball to the bye line before sending over a cross which Jordan Wright headed clear before Smith got there .  Just before half time  Chris Townsley got cautioned by the referee after Quote from Berwick Rangers twitter  ” where Finnie stole 20 yards at a throw in ” and Chris complained !!!!  .  Broxburn took the lead on 56 minutes when Ross Allum was sent clear down the right before sending a low cross across the box which was met by ANDREW MAIR who had the easiest of chances to turn the ball home from two yards out . A couple of minutes later Berwick responded but Stewart fired over from 20 yards out not troubling Shaun Donoghue in the visitors goal .  On 67 minutes Ross Allum created another chance this time for Joe Tait who met his cross at the back of the box but he fired his effort over the bar . Berwick changed their formation after a shot from Sinclair went wide from 30 yards out . This seemed to work as on 73 minutes a ball into the box fell to CALUM SMITH who was allowed to play keepy uppy 12 yards out before slotting the ball into the bottom left hand corner . A one two on 80 minutes finished with Donoghue tipping a Graham Taylor effort round the post . Broxburn thought they had sealed a winner with 6 minutes remaining a long ball was flicked over the home defence by Allum and Jackson Barker ran through on to it but saw his shot crash off the crossbar and over for a bye kick .

Extra time and it was Broxburn who created first when Mair played a ball across the box but Jack Cook turned it behind for a corner . The corner came in and this time Grant Nelson turned it behind for another corner to the visitors . This corner was met by Ross Allum who headed over . With eleven minutes of extra time gone John Ward went on a great run before firing in a shot the Donoghue done well to parry before clearing .Cameron Dow sent a good ball into Kieran McGrath who turned and shot but  Donoghue saved with his legs . Berwick hit the woodwork twice in the last two minutes of extra time , the first was when a free kick went to Graham Taylor who crossed in to  McGrath  who set up Jamie Pyper  who shot off the post from ten yards . Then when a blocked effort from Sinclair fell to McGrath he cracked one of the post also . With 120 minutes not separating these two sides it was down to penalty kicks .

Broxburn went first and Shaun Harrison saw his effort crash of the woodwork and away .  Jamie Pyper stepped up and scored for the hosts . Goal scorer Andrew Mair was next for the visitors his shot was saved but was unlucky as the ball just failed to cross the line . Grant Nelson missed the hosts second spot kick . Jordan Wright gave the keeper no chance with his sides third . Next up Sinclair  who makes no mistake in finding the net . Liam Ireland scores his penalty with ease . Cameron Dow blasted his attempt well over the bar leaving it 2-2 after 4 penalties each . It was now down to who could hold their nerve as Ross Allum despatched his penalty into the back of the net to put the visitors in front in the shoot out for the first time Kieran McGrath made it 3-3 after 5 penalties each and now sudden death . Greg Nicol sent his penalty off the cross bar leaving  Graham Taylor to score to send the home side through but Shaun Donoghue had other ideas and pulled of a wonderful save  to keep his side in it . Jackson Barker was next and he gave the visitors the advantage again . David Ferguson was now handed the responsibility of keeping the Lowland League side in the cup but he could do nothing about Donoghue’s magnificent save to put his side through into the next round  draw scheduled for week beginning 25th October , with the next round  to be played on Saturday the 20th of November . Would just like to thank all who made the long journey down over the border to support the team it was much appreciated with everything else that was going on on Saturday .

Sauchie v Broxburn Ath

Attendance 130

Broxburn were the first to try and open the scoring with David Greenhill testing Charles Clark in the home goal on 2 minutes . A blow to Broxburn came in 5 minutes when Connor Wallace had to be replaced by Shaun Donoghue on 5 minutes when he injured himself attempting to clear the ball . Sauchie came close on nine minutes when Syme passed inside to Kelly who shot past the post from close . The opening goal came for the hosts when a poor pass back was intercepted and after good play BRIAN MORGAN managed to force the ball home at the left hand post .Broxburn fought back and three minutes later Gary Brass managed to get a control on a long ball but shot weakly past the post . Sauchie had a succession of corners on the 20 minutes but the visiting defence cleared all attempts .Ross Hutchison saw a thirty yard shot go just over the bar . Brass so a good turn and shot blocked by the defence . With five minutes of the half left Daniel Smith saw his deflected shot saved well by Shaun Donoghue .

Broxburn went on the attack from the off and Greg Binnie went down the right and his ball into the box was met by the head of Ross Allum but Clark saved well .The hosts had some sustained pressure which finished when Kris Kelly shot harmlessly wide . Sauchie increased their lead on 55 minutes when good play out to the right found Kris Kelly who fired in a cross to the back of the six yard box where MARK FINLAYSON ghosted in at the back of Newall and his header gave Donoghue no chance .

Broxburn got back in the game when awarded a free kick 20 yards out  GARY BRASS stepped up and fired a low shot under the wall and keeper to give the visitors a lift on 59 minutes . Shaun Donoghue pulled of a great save from Mark Finlayson on 62 minutes . Hutchison sent a ball through to Allum who saw his shot blocked . On 67 minutes Ross Allum made a run into the box and as he was prepared to shoot from a tight angle he was clearly pushed . ROSS ALLUM stepped up and gave Clark no chance from the spot  .

Sauchie regained the lead spectacularly when a Broxburn move broke down in midfield the ball was sent to AIDAN CRACKNELL who cut inside before unleashing a rocket into the top right hand corn from the left hand side , giving Donoghue no chance .  Joe Tait almost got a point for the visitor’s when making a run into the box his shot beat Clark but crashed off the cross bar and the defence cleared the danger .

Disappointing in the end with new additions Andrew Mair and Adam Murray  showing up well not to take anything from the game . We hope to add to the squad soon and hopefully before next week with some players missing hopeful of a return next Sunday when we play Dundonald Bluebell  with a 12-15pm kick off because of groundhop weekend .

Linlithgow Rose v Broxburn Athletic

Attendance 300

With both sides depleted for one reason or another it was a hard one to call .Both keepers had very little to do in the opening 20 minutes apart from , on 8 minutes when Dean Shaw in the hosts goal came out to block Ross Allum who was through on goal in the right hand side of the box . Alan Docherty had a shot saved on 20 minutes by Connor Wallace  and the defence cleared the loose ball . Good play from the hosts four minutes later saw  Wallace save from Mark Stowe . Broxburn had a good break forward half way through the half but Ross Allum saw his shot go high and wide of the target .  Wallace looked lively to save a deflected shot from Stowe .A ball in from the left struck the visitors post and went out for a shy with the official giving the hosts the throw in for whatever reason . A minute later  a corner into the six yard box fell to MARK STOWE at the back post and he composed himself before firing past Newall and Wallace into the net . Two minutes later the visitors could not take advantage of a rose defence and keeper all at sea as the keeper came out his box the ball would not drop kindly to a visiting player who may have took advantage of the situation . mark Stowe sent a great ball into the box after working himself down the right only to see Connor Wallace clutch the ball before Alan Docherty was ready to head home at the back post . Conor McMullan tried an effort that Wallace saved .  The best chance of the half for the visitors came with five minutes left when David Greenhill sent Ross Allum through on goal but the forward shot weakly at the keeper and a good chance was gone .

Linlithgow started well the second have and two minutes in Thomas Hallern sent a great ball low across the six yard box but  Connor McMullan  was just too late to get on the end of the cross .  Stowe saw a shot saved and grabbed by Wallace on 51 minutes .Ross Nimmo almost got in on goal but his attempt was blocked by the home defenders . McMullan saw a curled shot go just wide and right of the goal .

The hosts doubled their lead when a ball played into the box was sent to the right hand post where a scramble ensued before JACK OGILVIE prodded the ball home despite claims for offside from the visitors the goal stood . The game petered out with only a Hallern header from a corner and a chance for Gary Brass to note . Disappointing day at the office and we will regroup and prepare for next Saturday’s away game to Sauchie .
