We returned home to Albyn Park today with an important league fixture with Fife side Hill of Beath Hawthorn.
Hill Of Beath lie in 7th place in the EOSFL Premier Division. They are three points ahead of local rivals Dundonald Bluebell who have three games in hand over them. In their last fixture, they lost at home to local rivals Crossgate Primrose 3-2 at Keirs Park on the 19th of March.
Broxburn make 4 changes to the side that beat Leith in the League cup on the 30th of March. In come Andy Black, Errol Douglas, Ross Nimmo & Marky Munro. They replace Kieran Moyles, Conor Thomson, Bryan Mwangi & Captain Nick Locke who is suspended today.

Not much action so far in the game, been a stop start affair with plenty of fouls.

Hill of Beath come close again on 37 minutes. Johnny Galloway’s volley is just wide.
On 44 minutes, Greg Page sees a straight red card. Hill Of Beath’s Daniel Watt capitalises on a mistake by Page and the Broxburn defender fouls and is the last man. Referee Hogarth has no hesitation and instantly flashes a red card.

In the third minute, a good switch of play by Greg Page finds Ross Nimmo out wide right. Nimmo crosses for Nick Locke who heads over.

On the 6th minute, the visitors threatened for the first time. Ben Finnan’s shot is pushed wide by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt. From the resulting corner, the ball comes out to Swifts number 4 John Binnie and Watt pushes it wide again for a second corner. Broxburn eventually clear the third corner.

Ross Nimmo looks for Errol Douglas. The big Broxburn striker forces Inverkeithing defender Ben Ramage into a mistake and Broxburn have a corner. Callum Heath takes and Kieran Moyles heads over the bar.

We returned to the Albyn on league duty against our East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Semi Final opponents, Inverkeithing Swifts on Saturday.

Inverkeithing Swifts lie in 12th place in the East of Scotland Premier Division. In their last fixture, they defeated Gala Fairydean away 3-2 in the East of Qualifying Cup Quarter Final on Tuesday the 27th of February. That sets up the semi final against Broxburn here at the Albyn, on Saturday the 23rd of March. Get it in your diary, a game not to be missed.

It was our second home game on the trot in the EOSFL Premier League, with Perthshire based Luncarty the visitors.

Luncarty lie second bottom of the East of Scotland, winning only 3 games of the 16 games they have played so far. In their last game, they beat Haddington Athletic at home, 1-0 last weekend.

First chance for Luncarty comes on 16 minutes. Aaron Carlon latches on to a long ball and uses his pace to get away from Broxburn’s Stevie Anderson. His shot is saved by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt.

Big chance for a Broxburn second on 19 minutes. Marky Munro is played in by Nick Locke. Munro delivers a low cross that was begging for contact, but it was missed by everyone, and it went for a Luncarty goal kick.

We returned to Albyn Park on Saturday, with an important league game against third place Musselburgh Athletic.

The visitors come to Broxburn in decent form, winning 11, drawing 4 and losing 2 of their league games so far this season. They were last in action last Wednesday, losing in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup 5-3 to Lowland league side University of Stirling, away from home.

We returned home to the Albyn for the first time in 2024, with a home fixture against Stirlingshire based Sauchie Juniors in league action.

Sauchie come into this fixture in 6th place in the East of Scotland Premier Division.  They haven’t been in competitive action since a Home 3-2 victory over Luncarty, on Saturday December the 23rd in the league.

Broxburn make 1 change to the team that defeated Crossgates 4-1 last weekend. Ross Nimmo replaces injured captain Nick Locke. There are also places on the bench for Jordan Wright who has been out long term with an injury & new boy Andrew Black.

After back-to-back postponements, It was back to league action for us on Saturday as we hosted Haddington Athletic at Albyn Park.

Haddington Athletic won promotion to the Premier Division after winning the First Division Conference A in the 21/22 season. In season 22/23 they finished a respectable 7th place in the EOSFL Premier Division. This season, so far, the club have had a good start and currently sit 7th in the table. In the reverse fixture back in October, we carved out a hard 1-0 win and it was noticeable how good a footballing side Haddington are. They were very unlucky not to take anything from that game. In their last fixture, they defeated Kinnoull at home 5-0 on Saturday the 9th of December.

Broxburn make 2 changes from the Bo’ness Athletic game in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup. In come Marcus Millar and new signing Jason Jarvis who has joined the club on loan from Bonnyrigg Rose. They replace Lewis Campbell and Callum Heath.

The teams emerge from the tunnel to windy conditions.

Broxburn are in their Traditional strips. Red and white shirts, white shorts, and red and white socks. The start with a 4-4-2 diamond shape.

Haddington are in light blue strips, grey shorts, and light blue socks. They start with a 4-3-3 shape.

Broxburn nearly take the lead in the 1st minute. Nick Locke wins possession high up the park, He finds Gary Brass who plays a good ball to Errol Douglas, who’s shot is well saved by Haddington keeper Campbell McLellan.

On the 7th minute, Haddington Athletic counter on a sloppy Broxburn pass. Robbie Peffers has a chance and just as he is about to pull the trigger, Greg Page makes an excellent sliding challenge.

First booking of the match comes in 12 minutes. Haddington’s Lucas McGarry is booked for a foul on Nick Locke.

On 21 minutes, Marcus Millar puts in a good cross for new boy Jason Jarvis, his header is right at Mclellan.

There isn’t much between the teams so far. Haddington look a danger on the counterattack.

Well worked move by Broxburn Athletic. Jason Jarvis finds Marcus Millar out wide left. His cross is cleared by Haddington’s Keir Russell.

Best chance for Haddington so far came on 31 minutes. A Guy McGarry shot is pushed wide by Bob Watt. From the resulting corner Guy McGarry’s header smacks the bar and comes back to Arran Ponton who’s shot hits off Kieran Moyles. The Haddington supporters and coaches were convinced it hit an arm, but the referee waved play on.

A good cross from Gabri Auriemma is well defended by Marky Munro, who gets his body Infront of the Haddington striker and draws the

foul. It’s been a great 10-minute spell from the visitors as they push for the lead.

On 37 minutes, Lewis Turner delivers a good cross that is headed on to Nick Locke whose shot is well saved by Haddington keeper Campbell McLellan.

Haddington’s Robbie Peffers skips past 3 Broxburn defenders. He takes a bad touch and Bob Watt bravely catches the ball down low, as both players collide and are down injured. Fortunately, they both recover and continue.

Today was the day we have looked forward to for weeks, the Scottish Cup Third Round fixture against Highland League side Buckie Thistle.

Buckie Thistle come down the road in good form. They lie third in the Highland League after 11 games. Winning 9, drawing 1 and losing 1. In their last fixture, they defeated Wick Academy 5-2 at Victoria Park.

Broxburn Athletic have reached this stage with two wins over Highland league opposition. Beforehand, they beat Dundee based Lochee United at the Albyn 3-0 in the Preliminary Round 2. They then beat Nairn County 2-1 at the Albyn at Round 1 and beat Deveronvale 1-0 in Round 2 up in Banff.

Buckie Thistle beat Tayport 4-0 in Round 1 at The Cannipairt in Fife. They then defeated fellow Highland League side Forres Mechanics 1-0 at Mosset Park in round 2.

Broxburn make 1 change from the team that beat Auchinleck Talbot in the South of Scotland Challenge Cup 4th round last weekend. Captain Nick Locke comes in for Conor Thomson.

Five minutes in and Broxburn are awarded a free kick on the right. Lewis Turner takes it, and his shot is right at Buckie keeper Stuart Knight. Ball is like a hot tattie in the early stages as both teams seem uncomfortable in possession.

Good through ball by Lewis Turner who finds Errol Douglas, the big man is in on goal, but the stand side linesman put his flag up. Looked onside from our viewpoint. A minute later Lewis Turner is played in, and the same linesman put his flag up. Another close call.

Gary Brass heads down to Nick Locke who has space on the right, but the Broxburn captain miss kicked his shot and Buckie have a goal kick.

On the 17th minute we have the games first booking. Buckie’s Scott Adams see’s yellow for a foul on Lewis Turner.

RED CARD! On the 23rd minute. Buckie are reduced to ten men. Scott Adams gets a second yellow for another foul on Lewis Turner after receiving his first booking only five minutes earlier.

Chance for Buckie. Jack Maciver’s shot is saved by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt. Marky Munro gets down the byline over on the right. He delivers an excellent cross but no one in a Broxburn shirt gambled and Buckie had a goal kick.

Buckie still look comfortable with the ten men. Still having a lot of the ball. Josh Peters finds Max Perry who shoots way over the bar for the visitors.
